Accommodation Tools

Read-aloud function

1. To activate the read-aloud function, click on the green play button. Select anywhere in the text to change where it's playing.
   
2. As it reads aloud, it will highlight the sentence and word it is on so students can follow along.
   
3. To change the read-aloud settings, click on Change Voice next to the green play button.
   
4. From here you can change the speed and sound of the voice.
   

Page View

The default view for articles is to show the entire article on one page. This may be too much text for a student, so they can change the view to see the article section by section.

1. To change your view, click on tools (indicated by the gear symbol) in the upper right corner.
   
2. Click View, then select By Section.
   
3. At the bottom of each page will be numbered buttons, which will take you to the different sections. There will also be arrows to go to the previous and next section of the article.
   

Text Size

1. To change your text size, click on tools (indicated by the gear symbol) in the upper right corner.
   
2. Click Text Size, then select larger or smaller.
   
3. View your adjusted article!
   

Change Font

1. To change your font, click on tools (indicated by the gear symbol) in the upper right corner.
   
2. Click Change Font, then select default or OpenDyslexic.
   
3. View your adjusted article!
   

Dictionary

1. Double-click a word to bring up the pop-up dictionary.
   
2. From there, you can search for another word in the dictionary.
   

Translation

Articles can be translated into over 100 languages.

1. To translate the text, click on tools (indicated by the gear symbol) in the upper right corner.
   
2. Click Translate.
   
3. Select a language. For a printer friendly list of translations, click here to download the PDF file.
   
4. View your translated article!
   

Lexile search

1. To view the Lexile measure of an article, click the Standards tab.
   
2. Click Lexile Measure on the left side of the page.
   
3. To search by Lexile measure, click Advanced Search, located on the Student homepage underneath the search bar.
   
4. Enter the Lexile range you'd like to search for and then click Search only Lexile measures.
   
5. On the results page, you can edit your Lexile range.
   

Media

For audio or visual learners, you can find media in search results or organized together within an article.

1. In search results, you'll see each type of content available listed on the left side.
   
2. Choose a media type, such as images, to view available results.
   
3. Within an article, you can find all of the media organized together in the Media tab.
